Rum production: from grappa to rum with excellent results!

We from Distilleria Zamperoni have been producing rums and spirits for many years, we perfected the technique throughout the years and we have always renewed our company to meet market’s requirements and produce better spirits, as our rum.

What is rum?
Rum is the brandy obtained from the distillation of sugar cane’s molasses. It is also called rhum in French speaking countries and ron in Spanish speaking countries.
It seems that the first rum distillation happened in London with Indian sugar canes around XV century, then after the XV century it has been produced using American sugar canes. The first rum distillation in the Americas took place in the sugar cane plantations in the Caribbeans in the XVII century. The slaves from these plantations were first to discover that the molasses, a by-product of the sugar refining process, fermented in alcohol.

How is rum made?
Rum production starts with the extraction of the sugar cane sugar from the canes, is then smashed to obtain a sugary liquid that is then purified, filtered and, depending on the production method, it gives life to two different kinds of rum: industrial rum and agricultural rum. The sugary liquid is distilled in a tower still and then is distilled depending on the final characteristics it should have.
